Usaburo Kokeshi is a kokeshi workshop founded in 1955 and located in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Kokeshi dolls are crafted from raw wood dried by the north wind; the wood is carved into a round shape, then sanded, painted, and assembled. The creation of a single kokeshi doll requires dozens of steps and relies on the skilled craftsmanship of the artisans.
