Pull-the-String Piggy Bank

The ceramic “Jiu Ji Ju Bao” piggy bank was created in collaboration with ceramic artisans from Yingge, Taiwan. Drawing on the traditional Five Elements theory—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—and the principle that “Earth gives rise to Metal,” the design embodies good fortune, as porcelain clay is extracted from the earth. While the design of the “Jiu Ji Ju Bao” is simple, its creation was anything but. The team overcame challenges ranging from clay shrinkage and mouth collapse to combining different materials, creating an opening, and adjusting glaze colors. The entire R&D process took over three years.
