Incense Sticks, Premium Wood (Various Types)

1. Myōjō: Warding off evil spirits, purification, and protection
Within the grounds of Mount Kōya, this wood—reserved exclusively for temple construction—is carefully preserved and cultivated as “sacred wood.” Only sacred wood from trees over 300 years old is harvested and used for temple reconstruction.

2. Sacred Beads: Ultimate Protection, Mystique
This wood comes from the massive cedar trees lining the approach to Mount Kōya, the site of the mausoleum of Kōbō Daishi Kūkai. Since only a small portion of the tree is harvested, it is extremely difficult to obtain and is a highly prized timber.

3. Yakusugi: Longevity, Purification, Protection
It is said to possess a powerful vitality passed down through the primeval forests and to embody the pure energy unique to the sacred land of Yakushima.

4. Ise Jingu Oyama Cedar: Great Auspiciousness, Virtue, and Good Fortune
The cedar trees that grow and thrive in the forest surrounding Ise Grand Shrine are known as “Jingu Cedar.” Since logging is strictly prohibited within the shrine’s forest, only those sacred trees of Ise Grand Shrine that are over 300 years old and have fallen naturally due to wind and rain are renamed “Miyama Cedar” and rarely make their way to the market.

Product Description

  • Gemstones and Incense

Since ancient times, people have believed that incense possesses the power to ward off evil spirits and misfortune, and to purify both body and mind. Therefore, burning incense is a way to purify natural gemstones—often worn as amulets—to restore their energy.
At the same time, people also hope that burning incense will purify a space and have a healing effect on both body and mind. It is precisely because incense has the power to purify gemstones and provide healing benefits that we place special emphasis on using natural materials

  • About Hayashi Incense:

During the production process, some offcuts are inevitably generated. Among these offcuts are many precious materials, such as wood from the foothills of Mount Koya and wood from Ise Grand Shrine.
Our incense sticks are made from wood shavings ground into powder at our own factory, transforming them into a new product. This is also one of our products certified under Hyogo Prefecture’s Sustainable Development Goals Promotion Declaration.
“Discarded as waste, used as a resource” is one of our corporate philosophies. We cherish materials rather than discarding them carelessly, thereby giving them new life.

  • Our Commitment to Incense:

Our incense sticks are the result of repeated trials conducted in collaboration with a long-established factory on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. Awaji Island is known as the “Island of Incense” and is Japan’s leading producer of incense sticks.
Each incense stick is meticulously crafted by highly skilled artisans.
We are committed to “Made in Japan,” and nearly all the wood used in our incense sticks is sourced from Japan.
We aim to introduce products from specific regions to the world, thereby promoting both the region and the products themselves.

Furthermore, all of our incense sticks are free of additives and fragrances.
Because we place excessive emphasis on appearance and image, our lives are inundated with various chemicals.
Incense smoke settles in the lungs and on surrounding objects, potentially leaving behind chemical residues. We
hope to create an opportunity for people to reexamine these issues and bring joy to our customers and their loved ones.
