The six coniferous tree species found on Mount Koya—cedar, cypress, spruce, larch, red pine, and Koya boxwood—are known as the “Six Trees of Koya.”
These six trees are particularly important as building materials for temples, and Kobo Daishi once utilized them as part of Mount Koya’s reconstruction efforts, such as by raising funds through the sale of timber. The Six Trees of Koya, sourced from natural forests, are believed to offer not only aesthetic beauty but also multiple protective benefits.
