群馬血石 Gunma Blood Stone

This is a cryptocrystalline variety of quartz containing iron oxide.
It is named “Bloodstone” because its appearance resembles bright red blood. Since it is believed to “bleed in one’s stead,” it is said to grant greater resistance to injury (or protect against harm) and boost vitality. Legend has it that in ancient times, soldiers and pregnant women often carried it with them as an amulet. Overseas, it is also associated with a deeply spiritual legend: it is said that on the hill of Golgotha, the blood shed by Jesus Christ dripped onto a stone, transforming it into bloodstone. It can be described as a stone that symbolizes life.
Furthermore, Kiryu City in Gunma Prefecture—where the stone is sourced—is famous for the “Legend of Princess Shirataki.” A local tale recounts how Kyusuke successfully confessed his love to the princess, and their romance blossomed into a happy union.

Symbolic Meanings: Securing true love (愛を射止める), protection from harm (怪我のお守り), increased vitality (活力を増す), prosperity, and a safe childbirth (母子平安).
