Product Description

Kokeshi dolls are crafted from raw wood dried by the northern winds, which is carved into a round shape, sanded, painted, and assembled. The creation of a single kokeshi doll requires dozens of steps, all made possible by the skilled craftsmanship of the artisans.

The wood used for Usaburo Kokeshi—such as Japanese white birch, chestnut, beech, and cherry—is sourced from the forests of Gunma Prefecture. Using mature trees promotes forest regeneration and allows us to make a small contribution to a healthy forest cycle.

From traditional “little sister” hairstyled Kakeko to palm-sized pieces in various designs, these items can be used as seasonal home decorations or gifts. Transcending the boundaries of traditional Kakeko, they offer a fresh perspective and serve as crafts that add color to daily life. Usaburo’s Kakeko will continue to uphold this philosophy, pouring technical skill and sincerity into the creation of Kakeko that blend tradition with innovation.
