Product Description

Takaoka copperware originated in the early Edo period, approximately 400 years ago (during the Keichō era), when Maeda Toshinaaga, lord of the Kaga domain, introduced casting techniques, and it gradually developed into one of Japan’s most representative metalcrafts.
Since ancient times, Takaoka copperware has been renowned for large-scale cast items such as Buddhist altarware, incense burners, temple bells, and lanterns, and is widely acclaimed for its exquisite casting techniques and elegant style.
Combining diverse techniques such as coloring, inlay, and repoussé, these works not only exude a solemn beauty but also embody a profound cultural heritage.
In 1975, Takaoka copperware was designated as a “Traditional Craft” by the Japanese government, and to this day remains a source of pride for the Japanese people as a masterpiece of art.
