出雲黑松

TThe black pine (Kromatsu) is the prefectural tree of Shimane Prefecture, Japan.
The region of Izumo is not only famous for the renowned “Izumo Taisha” shrine, but it also serves as the setting for stories such as “The White Rabbit of Inaba” and “Ōkuninushi’s Cession of the Country” (the Myth of the Cession of the Country) in the Japanese mythological texts *Kojiki* and *Nihon Shoki*.
It is a sacred site steeped in mystery and inextricably linked to Japan’s ancient history.
It is said that black pine must grow for at least 100 years before it can be used as lumber. This is because only the central “heartwood” of the black pine is usable; the outer “sapwood,” which is white in color, is too soft and has a high moisture content, making it highly susceptible to mold.
In recent years, due to infestations by the pine wood nematode (pine borer) and the effects of salt damage, the number of black pine logs has been rapidly declining. It has now become an extremely difficult-to-obtain, highly prized, and rare wood.

Energy of the Wood:
The power to forge all kinds of auspicious connections (the power to bring people together)
Prosperity (family well-being, business success)
Eternity (enduring, eternal protection)

Product Description
  • The Power to Forge All Kinds of Bonds: Izumo Taisha is a sacred site of “matchmaking” (enmusubi) in Japan, where myths of the Black Dragon and the White Snake intertwine. According to legend, every year during the Month of the Gods (the tenth month of the lunar calendar), deities from all over Japan gather in Izumo to discuss people’s fates and connections. Consequently, the Izumo black pine trees that grow here are believed to possess the most powerful energy for fostering connections and bringing people together—not limited to romantic relationships, but also extending to interpersonal bonds and career mentors.

Pine Wilt Disease (Nematode Infestation): This is one of the most serious ecological crises currently facing Japan’s pine trees. As a result of massive numbers of century-old pines dying from pests and diseases—compounded by the fact that the coastal Izumo region is frequently affected by salt damage from sea winds—healthy, high-quality black pine timber has become a rare commodity on the market.
