JINDAI TAMO

“Jindai-kaki” is not a new species of tree, but rather:
It is ancient wood formed when the original Tamo (Tamo) trees were buried underground, in riverbeds, or under volcanic ash due to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions, and then left there for hundreds to thousands of years, or even longer.
Due to the absence of oxygen, the wood did not fully decay but entered a state of partial carbonization, giving it a unique color and making it extremely rare.

Symbolic Meaning:
Warding off evil spirits, protecting the home, and promoting longevity
(Due to its calm, understated aura and powerful natural energy, it is often crafted in Japan into high-quality Buddhist prayer beads, amulets, tea sets, or high-end artisanal items)

Product Description

Jindai Tamo🌿

In Japanese mythology, “Jindai” (神代) refers to the Age of the Gods. Jindai Wood is timber that was naturally buried underground due to geological changes and preserved for hundreds to thousands of years without decaying.

As a timber species, Japanese Ash (Tamo) is primarily found in the Hidaka, Tokachi, and Kitami regions of Hokkaido, which are regarded as its finest sources. In recent years, however, the supply of domestic Tamo has declined, leading to increased imports of similar-quality ash wood from China and Russia.

Because Tamo naturally thrives in wetlands, it is also known as “Yachi Tamo” (Wetland Ash).

The scientific name Fraxinus sieboldiana is believed to be named after the renowned German physician and naturalist Philipp Franz von Siebold, whose name remains preserved in the species designation today.
