伊豆六方石 IZU Hexagonal stone

This lava was formed during a period of global cooling in the Upper Pliocene (Pliocene Epoch, approximately 500–258 thousand years ago). Following this period, a long ice age persisted until about 10,000 years ago, triggering a mass extinction of species.
This rock is an intrusive igneous rock known as hornblende dacite. As the magma cooled and solidified underground, it formed pentagonal to hexagonal columnar joints, which were later exposed at the surface (columnar jointing). The columns are generally between 10 and 20 centimeters in diameter.
When first quarried, it has a pale aqua-blue color, but due to its iron content, it gradually oxidizes (rusts) over time, taking on a reddish-brown hue.
Because of its mysterious and unique appearance, people have long placed it directly in gardens as landscape art, and it has been deeply cherished throughout history. Currently, the quarrying of Izu Rokuhō-ishi has ceased, making it quite difficult to find on the market.
In Japan, rocks with the same structure can also be found at Genbudo Cave in Hyogo Prefecture and in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture.

Symbolic Meanings: Change (turning point, breaking new ground), Reset (returning to zero, purification and reorganization), Grounding (the power to be firmly rooted and grounded)
