Kitayama cedar has a history of over 600 years in Kyoto. Due to its unique, lustrous grain—distinct from that of ordinary woods—it is regarded as a premium building material; prayer beads crafted from it also feature beautiful, eye-catching patterns. Kitayama cedar has also been widely used in the guest rooms of famous structures such as Kinkaku-ji Temple, Daitoku-ji Temple, Katsura Imperial Villa, and Shugakuin Imperial Villa.
This prayer bead strand is crafted by the long-established Kyoto shop Kobe Juzu-ten and has been granted permission to use the “Kitayama Cedar” regional collective trademark by the “Kyoto Kitayama Maruta Association.”
** Since the prayer beads are made from natural wood, the color and grain of each strand will vary slightly. **
